License Categories

The following list of definitions represent the different categories a license can belong to. This document is provided "as is" without any warranty whatsoever. This documentation may not be referenced to determine legal obligations with respect to open source licenses. Such determinations should be based upon recipient's independent legal analysis of each license.

Copyleft - The software may be used, modified, and distributed freely on condition that any derived works be bound by the same license terms (e.g., GPL, AGPL).
Limited - One (or more) of the common obligations of the license category maybe relaxed.
Proprietary - May be subject to proprietary licensing terms
Plus - Additional obligations or restrictions of the license category may exist.
Permissive - A minimal set (if any) of license obligations or restrictions.
Non-Commercial - Typically limited to non-commercial use.
Restricted - A license where additional restrictions apply to the license category it belongs.
Open - A license that is available to anyone (i.e., Open).
Attribution - Requires an attribution notice to accompany the software or work.
Commercial - May have commercial licensing terms.
Public Domain - In the public domain
Exception - Additional licensing terms (exceptions) may apply under conditional or special circumstances.
Multiple - A choice of licenses is provided.
Source-available - Source code is available
Contribution - Contribution license terms are present.
Custom - A license with non-standard (custom) licensing terms.
Patent License - More then the common patent terms may be applicable.
EULA - Typically restricted to end user usage of the software with limited to no redistribution.
